Valeriy Sokolov

Violinist Valeriy Sokolov was born in 1986 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He began playing the violin at the age of five, and at nine began to study at the Kharkiv Special Music School. Following successes in various competitions in Ukraine and other countries, in 1999 he won the Study Grant Prize at the International Pablo Sarasate Competition in Spain. This allowed him to enter the Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK where he studied from 2001 to 2005. He is currently studying at the Royal College of Music in London.

In recent years he has performed in various countries including France, Japan, Romania, Georgia as well as the UK. His recent competition successes include winning the Grand Prix at the September 2005 George Enescu International Competition.
